Many of us are getting back to the basics as we start to prepare for the New Year. Perhaps it's that feeling of gratitude for what we have, or it's the excitement of the new year, but many of us are starting to live in harmony with our environment once again. We're gardening, in larger amounts than ever before. Whether it's just a herb garden, or a vast wallflower garden, we're planting things back into the earth.
We've all been conditioned to buy goods at the mall and throw them in the garden. The problem with doing this is that what you've produced in excess is often only a few leaves or stems, and the entire plant is dead.
Let's look at this from a new gardener's perspective. An outdoor garden is nothing without plants, so we're going to need to start somewhere. You can plant seeds in the spring, but many people feel this is a bit untried, and you may not get the plants out before the snow arrives. I'm of the opinion that you may as well plant directly into the ground. What I'm about to share with you is probably the most important information you'll ever learn about gardening.
The best time of year to start plants in pots or containers is in the fall. You need to allow plenty of time before planting out. Most plants will do okay without transplanting, but we want to give them a chance to develop as they should and it's best to wait for that process to take place. Starting indoors in a large pot is the way to go. The more space you have, the larger the pot you can make. Even a five gallon paint bucket can grow plants. Now, you may be saying, so what? I already had a five gallon paint bucket. So what if I planted into it? The more space you can give your plants, the better you will do. If you have a garden, you know the struggle of a full bucket, and you know how much work it takes to keep it growing.
Planting is the answer. It's a solution to the fact that we can't control the weather, but we can control how much we use. We have to grow with the environment we have and not be like the child who tries to play with the fire. It's not fair. The only true way to control the weather is to have it controlled by God. You want to grow in an environment where it will be manageable. Now, the good news is that we can control the weather, so if we grow in the proper manner, we can have it manageable.
First, we need to know the proper way to grow our plants in buckets.
Plants can grow well, and be healthy, in containers. But, it's still a good idea to have a large container outdoors. And the same is true for any other type of container. If you have a terrarium or fish tank, well, you need to have a large enough container to keep the fish alive. And they'll appreciate it if you have a terrarium or similar. They'll be happy in a terrarium. The same is true with hanging plants. They'll appreciate it if you have a large enough container to hang the plants.
But, what if you don't have a large enough container? Well, it's your growth area. So, this is an opportunity to plan your container garden. You can use the terrarium if you're starting with some vegetables and other crop. But, you may not want to. Then, the grow room is the place for you. It's a controlled environment to develop your crops.
So, a grow room is usually a building or structure that's designed to control the environment. It's not really an outdoor garden. They may be a beautiful building that you visit on occasion. But, you should consider this if your indoor garden is where you spend most of your time. You don't want to be watering your plants for 10 minutes, and then realizing it's over. You want to have an environment that you can stay in for 2-3 days, with only a bit of effort. It's not like going out to a garden, where it's a bit of a struggle to get through the door. So, make sure the size of your grow room matches the size of your plant. There are three ways to do this. The first is to make sure there is a way for the root system to grow upwards. So, the most common technique is to have the grow room on a platform that slopes downwards. But, there is another style of grow room, which is to have a floor that slopes upwards, in some places quite steep.
Most people just put their plant containers on a mat floor in a corner. The mat flooring will give them more control over the environment. It's easier to put plants in a corner than an unallocated corner. Another way to grow in a controlled environment is to add fans and heating. You have to consider the space you have. If you have a small space, and your plants have shallow root systems, then you might need to remove more soil from the bottom of the container, than the others. It's good to add water than run the fans. This will give the plants some airflow. But, if you have a big space, then don't bother. You'll get just fine. And, if you're adding nutrients, then always include a fan. Don't forget to measure the pH of the water before you start, so you know how much chlorine to put in it. You can also check the pH of the water at the end of the season. Many people forget to do this. And, if you add a lot of nitrogen and potassium, then you'll get really well developed plants, with lots of foliage.
The plant container needs to be made of plastic, or other materials that allows air to move through it. There are several things you can do to allow the air to move through the plant container. One of them is to have large air holes, in the sides and bottoms of the pots. Then you can allow the air to circulate faster through the container. The plants don't have to be in the container all the time. Just put them outside on the patio or balcony, in the sun, for instance. Also, it's a good idea to put a lid on the pot, while it's not active, so any pest that tries to come in the pot can't get in.
But of course, you will have to keep a close eye on your plants to make sure they're okay. This is why I recommend keeping the water level up to the rim of the pot, and check it often. A lot of people will put a container of water outside, and monitor the PH. A good PH meter is a good idea, too. The ideal PH level would be 6.5, and you'll want to keep it within a range of 6.0 to 6.5. Check your plant's PH levels often, to make sure they stay in a range that's good for your plants.
Most plants will only need a little bit of nitrogen, once they've reached a good size. But, there are some plants that need a lot. Nitrogen is what makes your plants grow, so a fertilizer with lots of nitrogen in it is what you want. Your plant will also need trace minerals. These are minerals that are naturally found in soil, and are important for plants to have. A good fertilizer should also have a lot of potassium, which is what your plant needs for flower and leaf development.
Most plants will thrive in an average to low nitrogen fertilizer, but some need more nitrogen. You'll want to avoid fertilizer with too much nitrogen, since you'll put too much of it into your soil, which will harm your plants. The ideal range for your plant is a fertilizer with 5% nitrogen, and a high potassium level, too. Potassium helps your plant with root development, and helps your plant's flowers last longer.
With a little bit of homework, you'll know what nutrients to put into your soil to get the best results for your plants. Get some fertilizer, and test it. You'll get a reading, and then use that reading to figure out what nutrients to add to your soil. This will help you figure out the right fertilizing for your plant. But, if you don't like the fertilizer that you get, or the plant you get, don't worry. Just figure out the ideal PH balance, and fertilizer to put into your soil, and the fertilizer will tell you what to put into your soil.
How many times have you been working in your garden and feeling all tense and stuff? Not to worry, you don't have to worry about that anymore.
Your garden is no longer at risk of fire nor of rodents destroying the seeds. The danger of having to fight an algae invasion is a thing of the past. The best pest control in your garden is taken care of by the use of mulch. Not only does it block sunlight from reaching the soil, but it allows nutrients to stay within the mulch and seeping into the ground. Not only that, but the mulch makes the soil cool and retains moisture. This makes sure that your garden is weed free. No need for use of chemicals and chemicals in your garden.
The grass also gets a boost by the use of mulch. It keeps the grass clean and free from weeds and bugs. A garden no longer needs to be weed free for it to be considered green. So, with these benefits, the mulch does wonders for the garden. The only downside is that it also stops oxygenating the soil, thus making sure that the soil stays warm, moist and weed free for a longer period of time.
Using too much mulch is not recommended. It causes soil to become compact and cannot absorb the water and nutrients properly. It is important to avoid allowing the mulch to become compact and does not prevent oxygenation of the soil. Also, it should not be kept piling up. The ground is able to hold the mulch without any problems after a while. The soil surface becomes moist after a while after the mulch is added to the soil. To lessen the chances of the mulch becoming compact, it is advisable to not use too much mulch in the first place. But this can also lead to the mulch not absorbing the nutrients and water properly. You need to avoid using too much mulch in the first place, because it causes compaction of the soil.
Do not use too much mulch in the form of wood chips and compost as it may lead to the decomposition of the nutrients and water.
The mulch must be well mixed with soil and not only that, mulch should not be allowed to become compact. The soil would be unable to absorb the nutrients and water as it would become unable to breath. So, before using too much mulch make sure that the mulch does not become compact. This will prevent unnecessary problems and may lead to a healthier garden.
If you want to avoid problems and issues, make sure that the mulch does not get too thick. The mulch should not be in the form of wood chips and compost. This may lead to the compost turning into mush and the wood chips turning into sludge. So, before using too much mulch make sure that the mulch does not turn into mush or turn into wood chips.
Always make sure that the mulch is not too large as you need to make sure that there is no mold or fungi growth in the mulch. This may lead to problems and issues, the mulch may eventually decompose and mold may grow in it.
Fertilizers and pest control products need to be used with care. If you are using fertilizers with a high nitrogen content, be sure to only apply the fertilizer to the soil surface. The fertilizer should only be applied to the surface of the soil surface after having let the fertilizer settle into the soil and cover the roots of the plants. You need to avoid getting the fertilizer on the leaves and branches.
If you want to avoid problems and issues, be sure to remove the fertilizer from the soil before adding it to the planting hole. If you are not sure what fertilizer to use, read the instruction sheet of the fertilizer.
